New name, same GFO program
Community Food Centres Canada is proud to announce its new name: Right To Food. Our new name is not just a rebrand — it’s a call to action. It’s a reminder that we can do better and that food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more about our new name.
The Good Food Organization program continues with the same name and the same objectives.
What is the Good Food Organization program?
The GFO program provides members with the tools, resources, training, grants and networking opportunities to inspire and help them build their capacity to not only offer high-quality food programs, but also engage in regional and national actions.
The program aligns under the banner of Good Food Principles, which we all aspire to and work toward.
Throughout the year, Right To Food creates opportunities for members to develop partnerships with other food organizations, share ideas for innovative programming, get strategies that are rooted in social justice and equity, engage in civic action on food insecurity, and deepen their impact within their community.
Why do we do it?
Right To Food's mission is to resource and strengthen the community food sector and mobilize with our partners for progressive policy change. We do this by supporting organizations like yours who are carrying the movement forward!
Who is the GFO program for?
The Good Food Organization program is for:
- Community organizations or charities that run dedicated food programming—or want to develop food programming—on: food access, food skills, education and engagement, or a combination of these.
- Organizations that are aligned with the Good Food Principles or are working toward implementing them in their organization.
Program goal and objectives
The goal of the GFO program is to inspire and empower organizations in the community food security sector in Canada to offer impactful food programs.
Its objectives are to:
To increase availability of information and resources, knowledge and skills related to the delivery of high-impact, respectful and responsive community food security programming.
To build or strengthen connections amongst organizations to share challenges and best practices so they will become stronger organizations and leaders in the good food movement.
To strengthen the ability of community food organizations (CFCs and GFOs) to take action, both locally and as part of national campaigns.
Benefits of the program
As a member of the program, you gain access to:
- Peer-to-peer connections with a community of like-minded organizations
- Resources
- Virtual trainings
- Policy, advocacy and campaign materials
- Grant opportunities*
- and more!
*NOTE: The GFO program is not a grant program. There are some grant opportunities that arise, but this is not the focus of the program.
Annual membership cycle
Membership renews on an annual basis. Each fall, we invite current GFOs to renew their membership for the coming year and invite new organizations to join the program.
The GFO network
Since its creation in 2014, the GFO program has grown from 25 organizations to 450 organizations across Turtle Island, including partners from coast to coast to coast in Canada, as well as a few members internationally.
Our diverse and growing network includes food security organizations, health centres, food banks, teaching farms and anti-poverty groups that are committed to offering impactful community food programs based on principles of health, empowerment and respect.
